There are many features that Gmail does a lot that some users may have overlooked. Starting with one short web address, you can video chat, change the look of your email screen, ensure you didn’t leave yourself logged in elsewhere, and pluck a single message out of tens of thousands. Here’s a list offered by the ‘lifehacker’ site.

10) Change Gmail’s look entirely with themes.
9) Launch video and audio chats,
8) Back up your email from any system.
7) See all the places where you’re signed in, and remotely sign out.
6) Serve as a central, synchronized, smarter contact list.

5) Consolidate all your email accounts.
4) Help friends find their own Gmail messages or bookmark your own.
3) Keep your Gmail account(s) on your desktop.
2) Give you total search power.
1) Do much, much more with Gmail Labs experimental features.

Visit the lifehacker site for more detailed descriptions. Better yet, explore your GMAIL account and discover all of the tools yourself, such as Google Scholar, website creator (Sites.Google.Com), browser (Google Chrome (BETA) for Windows), just for starters.

  2. I read the post on the 10 things that gmail can do. I also read some of the comments by others. Several months ago I opened a gmail account and tried to link my other Email accounts like yahoo but things fouled up. From what I have read they got rid of this problem recently. Still I am afraid to do some things because you never know what will happen. Learned in the work place to choose programs that work for you and stay with them or spend lots of time fixing things since IT support is sparce. Of course the purpose of this classs is to expand beyond our current comfort zone. I am actually using a MAC in the Computer Lab as I type this.
