Women’s Technology Network — WTN

February 28, 2008

February 08 Meeting

Attendees: Dr. Matilda Rivera, Arlene Cohen, Maria Ovalles, Suzanne T. Bell, and Dr. Jacqui Cyrus

We met in SoE, room 108 to discuss how we wanted to continue to connect and network. Dr. Cyrus gave all attendees an overview of the Mac OS (operating system) on the new INTEL 20-inch iMacs — how to access the HD, looking at the Dock (playing with Photo Booth), creating folders, putting items into the trash, and shutting down.

We discussed what we wanted our next few sessions to include in order of importance: (1) creating and using BLOGs for coursework and librarianship, (2) creating and using a del.icio.us list, and (3) understanding the benefits of group participation in a MOODLE.

We discussed the following technology tools with which to get proficient:

(1) del.icio.us lists http://del.icio.us/

(2) zotero  http://www.zotero.org

(3) WTN BLOG   http://jacqui.blogsome.com/

(4) UoG MOODLE   http://campus.uogdistance.com/

Our next WTN meeting will be Friday, 28 March at 4:00p in SoE, room 108.

  3. Dr. Cyrus, thank you for jump-starting WTN again; I hope to incorporate some of the new tech tools to promote library services; and add to faculty and students toolbox of skills.

  4. Jacqui, It appears that the messages I tried posting didn’t get lost in cyber space after all, as there is a duplication of the messages. Feel free to delete those that are repeated. I also enjoyed the Mac navigation. In any event, the Guam Library blog I mentioned can be viewed at http://guamlibraryassociation.blogspot.com/ It is actually not specific to the GPLS, but as you can see on the site, it’s another tool to keep the community abreast of various library activities any day, any time, with a touch of a button! Take care and I look forward to our next meeting.

  5. First I want to thank you all for a great WTN session on Thursday (2/28), it reminded me of how I miss being a student – the luxury of being fed interesting and new information. It also reaffirmed to me the saying “the more you know, the more you realize what you don’t know”. It was fascinating to be introduced to the lovely Mac os; I’m still thinking about the subtle video camera and the array of creative tricks that can be applied to the image. I could easily get hooked!

This is my debut…the first time I have posted on a Blog. I am grateful to you all for holding the lantern, looking forward to more…especially the del.icio.us list. I see the possibilities of some real and immediate applications for rescuing my favorites.

  8. Suzanne…Congratulations! It’s wonderful to be able to blog, isn’t it? Speaking of blogging, I decided that it would be great to create a blog to serve as the Home Page for the SOE Alumni Association! You can check it out at http://soealumniassociation.blogspot.com/ Let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Matilda :)
